We started TRS 8 days ago.

Speech:

My son who is now 3.5 years old was told he has a speech delay at 18 months. We had been using a service to help him out. It wasn’t very effective. Helpful but it was very slow progress. He’s now in preschool to help with his speech and interaction with other kids. The teacher says he doesn’t talk much and he would get mad when we can’t understand him. While this was all going on, we decided to be sure to rule out any possibilities for why his speech is delayed. I took him to go see a pediatric dentist who was able to confirm he is not tongue-tied. We then took him to see an ENT where the audiologist would be able to determine if he has a hearing problem. They couldn’t get a good read, so I asked if there was another way we could confirm this. They mentioned we could sedate him. This was not something I wanted to do. The idea had been brought up before when he was 18 months but I refused. Finally, at 3.5 years old, I felt I had no other way of finding out as my son did not want to sit still.
So, we went to the hospital, sedated him and confirmed he does not have a hearing problem. But after that night, he had night terrors for 2 weeks. About 1.5 months ago, we signed him up to see a speech therapist outside of school. She studied him, said that there was something going on in his brain, that she couldn’t figure out! For example for the word milk, he would say “she” or walk for “k”. He loves his alphabets and had several letters that he could not say and counting numbers was unclear. Also, if there were 2 words put together, he could say the first word but was off on the second word. She couldn’t figure him out! But was able to still help him with sounding out words. But she only had 30 mins each week with him.

Possible ADHD:

Isaac also shows signs of having ADHD. The behavioral specialist could not say for sure because of him having speech delay and with only be 3.5 years old, said that was too soon to make the call. That’s when we decided to have him see a speech therapist. Both therapists also noticed he was quite active. My son is always on the go and he doesn’t like to obey me. This why we hardly go to parties or grocery stores (now we just shop online and do curbside pickup).

Speech and possible ADHD result:

Today, when we took him to go see his speech therapist. She was very impressed with his speech. Said he’s been more clear with his words. She kept saying good job, Isaac. Sometimes he would even mock her. We would chuckle. He loves his alphabet and numbers and he’s been more clear than ever saying them. She also said he’s been calmer, actually sits down for a while, and watch her teach him. I’m looking forward to how he will progress in a month.

TRS on me:

I used to get so tired in the afternoon that I would need a nap. Not anymore!
